My hero saw him running in an exhibition day in Edinburgh when I was a teenage sprinter and long jumper.But sadly we had moved away and had no facilities or coaches where we lived. Allan came from Long Jumping and managed to achieve 200m records as well as 100m his style and power was without the modern day support that athletes have of sports scientists and gym work and all that, just pure running.

Cram was at his when he took the race with full throttle. He was a guy who relied on physical strength, guts and a will to win. His race wins are memorable.

When Coe went through 400m in 53 and could then only manage a 2nd 53 lap there was clearly something wrong - he had glandular fever. Incidentally I was a fan of the smiling gentleman in the studio and definity enjoyed it, there was no debate about me..

I wasn't born until 1974, but Lillian Board is nevertheless one of my all time favourite athletes.I can't remember when I first heard of her but as I got older and learned more about her and her tragic early demise I became a fan.I'm sure Lillian would've become one of the all time greats of British sport and it's so terribly sad how things turned out.RIP Lillian.
